10 Ways to Market Your Small Business on a Shoestring Budget

Sure, you want to make your business stand out among your competition and be the most visible and the most respected brand in the field. For that, or at least, something like that to happen, you will need some very serious and good marketing going on. Everybody gets that part. However, rare are the people who think beyond this point as they think that god marketing has to be very expensive. Of course, you will need to spend some money if you want your business to be well advertised, but those amounts of money don’t have to be enormous. With a little bit of thinking and following these tips, you can invest your marketing budget at all the right places and pay where it will make the most benefit while saving it where you can go a lot cheaper. This is where you’ll save it.

If we start from the most expensive things, this is definitely one of the things that you should be investing in. A bad site will bury your business. Therefore, your website is something that you will need to pay for. However, SEO strategies can be learned and there are tons of online tutorials for free. So, if you want to save your money, spend some time learning.

Social networks
This is another example of how your money can be replaced with spending some time. Do all your marketing on the social media on your own and avoid the paid ads and similar things. However, it will cost you time.

Press releases
Another way for you to have some extra traffic at your website is to have frequent press releases published. Good news is that you can do it yourself. 

Target audience
Before you start any of these campaigns and before you start spending money, identify the audience. In that way, you will save by localizing your ads and not wasting money on ads that are shown to people that don’t need your business.

Directory listings
This is another thing that you can do on your own. Add your website to the online directories. A lot of those offer free plans where you can place your link without charge. Sometimes, it is only for a certain amount of time, but you can always repeat it.

Encourage your customers to give you referrals
There is nothing quite like personal recommendation of a pleased client. A lot of pleased clients want to give recommendations but they don’t know how or where. Give them a chance and enjoy the benefits.

Advertise discounts
This is how you get those potential customers to decide and buy the product they are considering buying from you. Offer them a discount and that will tip their decision over to your side.

Everybody loves a free gift. People will consider your product if they get a free sample. Also, if you give them a gift that they can use, you have bought your ticket into their pockets, purses and homes. Print your logo on that merchandise and it’s a win-win situation.

Find a business that is similar to yours, but not your competition. Join the marketing funds and advertise together. For example, if you sell notebooks, join with somebody who sells pencils. 

Local vs nation-wide media 
If you have a local business, save your money and target the local media. Some old lady from Nevada will hardly come to you to buy your product.
