Working Smarter: A Sense of Humour a Sound Business Attribute

A grammar Nazi, I closely inspect many of the signs I see. All too often I see a sign that has incorrect spelling, poor grammar or syntax. I tell myself that signwriters aren't business communication specialists and it's only to be expected.

Sometimes I see signs that indicate a sense of humour, an attribute that can make a business memorable in a pleasant way. I found such a sign at a small business at Bright in Victoria. Outside a Christmas goods shop, my mate Michael and I saw the bench seat with the sign above it and just had to have our photo taken.

There we were, two older guys waiting for our wives to inspect every piece of Christmas paraphernalia, watching the passing throng of shoppers and soaking up the warmth of the sun. Some passersby looked at us and smiled or commented, hopefully, none adversely.

People like humour to brighten up their lives. They like businesses that include humour in their sales, marketing and static displays etc.

Do you use a touch of humour in your business marketing strategy? If not, why not give it a try and see whether it makes your customers more positive about doing business with you?
